
BlueClaws Win 4-3 In 9th

SAVANNAH, GA â The Lakewood BlueClaws (14-24) were able to break a 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth inning and went on to defeat the Savannah Sand Gnats (16-21) 4-3 at Historic Grayson Stadium tonight. BlueClaw starter Cole Hamels was impressive in his Lakewood debut pitching five scoreless innings only allowing one hit and struck out eight in the no decision. The BlueClaws first run of the game came in the top of the fourth inning on a RBI sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Ryan Barthelemy. Lakewood would pick up two more runs in the top of the sixth on a two-run homer to left field by left fielder Mark McRoberts giving them a 3-0 lead. The Sand Gnats would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. Third baseman Shawn Norris led off the inning with a solid single to center field. Frank Diaz would reach on a fielder's choice to second base moving Norris up a base. Catcher Josh Emmerick then hit a three run home run to left field on a 1-1 pitch by reliever Zach Minor tying the game at 3-3. However, the BlueClaws were able to push a run across in the top of the ninth on a RBI single to center field by catcher Tim Gradoville for the 4-3 advantage. McRoberts' homer was his fifth of the season. Jeremy Isenhower was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Chris Rupert (1-2) picked up the win in relief. For the Sand Gnats, Marco Yepez and Jason Conlisk were 2 for 4. Emmerick's homer was his second of the season. Right-hander Todd Meyer (0-1) took the loss for the Sand Gnats. The Sand Gnats will face the BlueClaws again tomorrow night with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Wednesday is our Kids Eat Free promotion presented by Kix 96 and the Savannah Morning News.
