Kasib Powell Earns Second Gatorade Call-Up to Miami

NEW YORK, April 8, 2008 - The 2007-08 NBA Development League Most Valuable Player Kasib Powell of the Sioux Falls Skyforce today earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Miami Heat. The Heat signed the forward for the remainder of the season and he is scheduled to join the Heat when the team hosts the Chicago Bulls tonight at American Airlines Arena.

In 40 games for the Skyforce he averaged 22.2 points, on 51-percent shooting, to go with 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 38.8 minutes of action. His 22.3 points per game ranks him fourth in the D-League in scoring average.

Originally called-up to Miami on March 22, Powell averaged 6.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 steals in 25.4 minutes, during his first stint in Miami. Standout performances included a 15-point outing at Indiana on March 31 and a 14-point outing at New York on March 26.

The 26th GATORADE Call-Up this season, Powell was selected as a D-League All-Star and traveled to New Orleans to participate in All-Star activities in February. In the game, Powell scored 14 points en route to his Red Team's victory over the Blue Team. Additionally, Powell participated in H.O.R.S.E during the inaugural D-League Dream Factory Friday Night.

Prior to his time in the D-League, Powell spent two seasons at Texas Tech University, where he averaged 14.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists during his final season. He has participated in NBA camps and summer leagues with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers.
