Midland RockHounds News Release
Mikey White's two-run single and four scoreless innings from James Kaprielian led a (very) strong overall team performance as the RockHounds won their third straight, 4-1, over the Corpus Christi Hooks Saturday night at Security Bank Ballpark.
The 'Hounds took the lead scoring three times against Forrest Whitley, the Houston Astros' # 2 prospect, in the fourth inning, Taylor Motter was hit by a pitch and Dan Gamache followed with a single. Whitley got the next two batters (left fielder Bryan De La Cruz made a tremendous, running catch to take extra bases away from Collin Theroux) but Cooper Goldby and Chase Calabuig drew walks, the latter with the bases loaded, to tie the game at 1-1. White followed with a sharp single up the middle, scoring Gamache and Goldby.
Mickey McDonald walked to open the 'Hounds eighth and Goldby and Calabuig (RBI) followed with consecutive singles for an insurance run.
Kaprielian (see below) allowed one hit, one walk and hit one batter over four scoreless innings in relief of Daulton Jefferies for the win with Wandisson Charles (hold) and Jesus Zambrano (save) closing the door with scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth, respectively.
Notables
Frisco and Amarillo were still underway at this writing after being delayed by a power outage at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco.
The RockHounds had only five hits Saturday, yet every batter in the lineup reached base and six different hitters scored or drive in a run (Mikey White and Chase Calabuig each drove in two).
The first six games of the RockHounds homestand have been decided by a total of nine runs.
Since returning from the Injured List on August 1, Mikey White has hit in 7-of-8 games (11-34, .324), with three doubles and four RBI.
Cooper Goldby has hit in three straight games (3-for-7) plus four walks (on base in 7-of-11 trips to the plate).
In his last three appearances, James Kaprielian has allowed two runs in 11.0 innings (a 1.64 ERA).
Jesus Zambrano lowered his ERA to 1.46 in 22 appearances with the RockHounds while earning his fourth save in as many opportunities.
