KANNAPOLIS, NC - The BlueClaws built a 3-0 lead on Sunday in Kannapolis but ultimately lost 9-4, capping an 0-7 road trip for their eighth straight loss and 12th loss in their last 13 games.

The Intimidators (28-28), who have now won nine games in a row, took the lead when former BlueClaw Bill Rice scored on a passed ball as part of a four-run sixth inning to erase a 3-0 Lakewood lead. All four runs (three earned) were charged to BlueClaws starter Ervis Manzanillo (0-4), who lasted 5.1 innings.

Lakewood took a quick 2-0 lead when Alejandro Villalobos led off the game with a single and Aaron Altherr hit his fourth home run of the season. The BlueClaws (19-37) added a run on an RBI single by Brian Pointer. That was all, however, they would get off Kannapolis starter Blair Walters (3-2), who threw six scoreless innings after the three-run first inning.

Altherr led the BlueClaws offensively, going 3-4 (his third three-hit game of the saeson) while Villalobos, Maikel Franco, and Harold Martinez each had two hits.

Kenny Giles gave up two runs in 2.1 innings of relief while Matt Campbell gave up three runs in 1/3 of an inning, including a grand slam to Kannapolis' Kevan Smith.

Lakewood's 8th loss in a row is one off the franchise record of nine, set in the first nine games of the 2006 season. The BlueClaws return home on Tuesday to start a three-game series with Lexington.
