
Suns Win Big in Mitchell Akers Benefit Game

Hagerstown, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (33-23) beat the Delmarva Shorebirds (22-34), 13-5, at Municipal Stadium on Sunday. Through donations collected from ticket sales, an autographed bat auction, the South Atlantic League and monetary donations, over $8,200 was raised to benefit the Mitchell Akers Leopard Spirit Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Steven Souza Jr. led the Suns attack, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs. Cutter Dykstra also finished the day with four RBIs and smacked a three-run homer for Hagerstown. Jason Martinson hit his seventh long ball of the season and upped his league leading RBI total to 56. Suns' starter Taylor Hill (5-4) earned the win pitching six innings and allowing four runs on six hits.
Shorebirds' starting pitcher Patrick Bridwell (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing nine runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings pitched. Connor Narron went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in a losing effort.
The Suns will enjoy a scheduled off-day tomorrow before beginning a three-game series with the Kannapolis Intimidators (White Sox) on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
