Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - It was not easy, but Kannapolis wrapped up their first four-game sweep of the season on Friday night at Municipal Stadium with a 6-2, 14-inning win over the Hagerstown Suns.

Kannapolis posted four runs in the top of the 14th off of Kevin Light (2-2). After a leadoff walk to Drew Garcia, Jon Gilmore singled up the middle with two outs to put the Intimidators in front for good. Josh Phegley and Brandon Short followed with RBI hits to add some cushion heading to the home half of the frame.

Garrett Johnson (4-4) took the win with three solid innings of relief, but he was just one of four relievers to keep the Suns off the board. Leroy Hunt, Dan Remenowsky and Drew O'Neil each threw two shutout innings to keep the Kannapolis hopes alive. Remenowsky struck out five of the six batters he faced.

The Intimidators (6-2, 43-35) needed a comeback to force bonus baseball, scoring two runs in the eighth to tie the game. Sergio Morales doubled off of closer Osvaldo Rodriguez with two outs to score Justin Greene and tie the game. Morales force to exit in the bottom of the eight after suffering an injury chasing down a flyball.

Nevin Griffith made his first start of the season for Kannapolis, going five innings and allowing both Hagerstown (1-8, 32-44) runs. Only one of the two runs was earned, as Griffith made a throwing error to allow a run to cross that gave the Suns a 2-0 lead.

Lost in the late-inning action was a terrific start by Hagerstown's Marcos Frias. Frias worked 7 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on six hits. He got the first 12 Kannapolis hitters that came to the plate in order.
