Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - Travis Kane struck out 10 batters on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 5,482 to pitch the Sioux Falls Canaries (30-17) to a 3-1 win over the St. Paul Saints (24-23). Kane allowed just one run in 8.1 innings on his way to his sixth victory of the season.

The Canaries got on the board first, scoring in second inning. Beau Torbert reached first after being hit by a pitch from Saints starting pitcher Justin Lord. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, Torbert scored on a two-base sacrifice fly to centerfield by Patrick Reilly.

In the fourth inning the Canaries notched another run on the board. Grant Richardson hit a ground rule double into the temporary warning track seats that were set-up for the game. Richardson eventually scored as Ben Van Iderstine popped up in front of first base, leading to an error by Saints pitcher Justin Lord. After the error, Van Iderstine was safe at first and Richardson scored for a 2-0 lead.

The Birds would score their third and final run in the sixth inning. Grant Richardson hit his third home-run in as many games and his fifth on the season, a solo shot to give the Canaries a 3-0 advantage.

The Saints lone run came in the ninth inning as Heath Keel doubled off the wall in center field and later scored on a single by Andrew Bennett. The run was St. Paul's only run of the game as the Canaries picked up a 3-1 win to notch their 30th win of the half.

Kane (6-2) got the win for the Canaries. Lord (3-5) suffered his fourth loss in as many starts. Kris Regas got the final two outs of the game to record his fifteenth save of the season.

The Canaries wrap up the first half of the season tomorrow with their series finale against the Saints. Sioux Falls will send Lenny Bays (1-2) to the rubber to take on Dustin Bolton (3-0). Game time is set for 2:05 p.m. with the day's promotion featuring the Sioux Falls Strongest Competition.
