SIOUX FALLS, SD - St. Paul Saints starter Justin Lord was dominating on Saturday evening against the Sioux Falls Canaries hurling a complete game three hitter, but the Saints still lost 3-1.

Lord used his full arsenal of pitches and had great movement on his slider and breaking pitches, but small mistakes continued to plague the Saints. In the second Lord hit Beau Torbert to start the inning. He moved to second on a wild pitch. With one out Patrick Reilly hit a fly ball to center which Josh Womack made a great catch falling into the snow fence along the warning track. Torbert tagged from second and didn't stop at third as he motored around and scored ahead of the relay throw giving the Canaries a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth Lord gave up a lead off double to Grant Richardson. Lord got the next two hitters, but Ben Van Iderstine popped one up on the right side of the infield. Lord moved over to make the catch, but Tim Brown appeared to call him off at the last moment. Lord couldn't get out of the way and it hit his glove and fell allowing Richardson to score making it 2-0. The only other run Lord gave up was a solo homer by Richardson in the sixth. Lord went 8.0 innings allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out two.

Canaries starter Travis Kane was just as impressive. He struck out a career tying high 10 as he went 8.1 innings allowing one run on six hits while walking one. Going for the complete game shutout in the ninth Kane gave up a one out double to Heath Keel and that was followed by an RBI single from Andrew Bennett. Canaries closer Kris Regas finished the game by getting Zach Goldberg to fly out and Ryan Priddy to strike out as he picked up his league leading 15th save of the season.

The same two teams meet in the final game of the four game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Dustin Bolton (3-0, 2.04) to the mound against Canaries RHP Lenny Bays (1-2, 4.56). The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
