Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals (4-2, 36 - 40) defeated the Daytona Tortugas, 5 - 1, in the series finale at Roger Dean Stadium. Palm Beach scored three runs in the third inning, enough for the eventual win. Newcomer, Blake Drake, started the run parade with a home run over the left field wall. Starting pitcher for the Cardinals, Rob Kaminsky, earned the win, his fifth of the season.
In the bottom of the third, the Cardinals scored three runs off four hits and batted through seven Beach Birds. Drake smashed the second pitch he saw from Daytona's starting pitcher, Seth Varner. Casey Turgeon and Robelys Reyes registered back-to- back hits to keep the hitting streak alive. With runners on the corners, Brett Wiley hit his 15th RBI of the season, a sacrifice fly
to center field to score Turgeon. Two batters later, Collin Radack, who was reinstated from the disabled list earlier today, hit a single to left field to score Reyes.
The Cardinals added two more runs this game, one coming in the fourth inning and the other coming in the eighth. In the fourth, Carson Kelly crossed home plate on Reyes' double, his second hit of the night. In the eighth, David Washington led off the inning with a triple, and later scored on a groundout hit by Kelly.
Between Palm Beach's three pitchers, they combined for one run on four hits and struck out six throughout the nine innings. Kaminsky threw seven complete, allowing just two hits, walking two, and whiffing four. Kevin Herget came to the mound in the eighth and pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing the Tortugas lone run on two hits. With runners on first and second, Ronald Shaban came to the mound to record the last out of the game. He threw two pitches to induce a fly ball to right field.
The Cardinals will finish continue their home stand by playing host to the Fort Myers Miracle. Game one will be on July 1 with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
