Kalamazoo's Struggles Continue, Get Swept at Kokomo

Kokomo, Ind. - The Kalamazoo Growlers fell 3-2 against the Kokomo Jackrabbits in the final meeting between the two teams at Kokomo Municipal Stadium. Kalamazoo will get another chance at the Jackrabbits August 8 and 9 at Homer Stryker Field.

Kokomo struck first in the bottom of the first on a two run single by Ben Livorsi (Minnesota St.-Mankato). The Jackrabbits stranded three runners on base in the frame. The Growlers' starter, Christian Johnson (0-0, Gustavos Adolphus), had two strikeouts in the frame.

Kalamazoo responded quickly in the next half inning as Zack Gelof (UVA) drilled a leadoff triple in the right center gap. He would come around to score two batters later on an RBI single by Gabe Rivera (Miami (FL)).

The Growlers were able to tie the game in the fifth on an RBI single from Austin Knight (Tennessee), to bring around Brooks Coetzee (Notre Dame). 

The winning run was scored by Kokomo in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Logan Jarvis (Belmont) to score Jack Kraus (UW-Milwaukee).

In the top of the ninth, the Growlers had runners on first and second with one out but the runners couldn't advance farther.

The Jackrabbits starter, Parker Sisovsky (1-1, Kalamazoo College) earned his first win, while David Toth (1-3) registered the loss. Joey Haass (Delaware) earned his sixth save as he shut the door on the Growlers in the ninth.

The Kalamazoo Growlers return to action tomorrow from Simmons Field in Kenosha, Wis. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CT, 8:05 p.m. ET.
