Florida Everblades News Release
Kalamazoo, MI-The first meeting of the Florida Everblades and the Kalamazoo Wings proved to be combustible. The first period saw Mike Hotham drop the gloves twice and the Kalamazoo Wings recorded four unanswered goals. The âBlades got on the board in the second with goals from Harrison Reed and Colin Nicholson, but were unable to stop K-Wing Andrew Fournier who tallied two power-play goals. The third period saw a flurry of goals from Florida as Kevin Baker, Ross Carlson, and Harrison Reed all found the back of the net to bring the Everblades within one goal. Ross Carlson scored his second goal of the game to send the 'Blades into sudden death overtime. The game was decided in a shoot out with Kalamazoo recording the win 6-7.
The first period opened with a bang as Mike Hotham and Olivier Legault dropped the gloves. The officials sent both players to the box with five minute majors for fighting. Tensions continued to run high and Kalamazoo exploded with four goals from Mitch Versteef, Ben Simon, Tom Morrow, and Sal Peralta. Another fight from Mike Hotham and a goalie switch (Barry Brust replaced Chris Beckford Tseu) was not enough and the period ended 4-0 in favor of the Wings.
Kalamazoo continued to blaze as Andrew Fournier scored a power-play tally at 7:31 to make the score 5-0. Harrison Reed helped Florida avoid a shut out as he shot one home off of Ernie Harlieb and Brad Zanon to make the score 5-1. Sparks began to fly for the Everblades as Colin Nicholson scored his second goal of the season at the 16:21 mark making the score 5-2. Kalamazoo then went on the power play and Andrew Fournier beat netminder Barry Brust to score at 19:09 and make the score 6-2.
Louis Liotti committed a penalty to open the third stanza and send the Everblades into a power play. Florida found success from team captain Kevin Baker at 8:51 and Harrison Reed was credited with the assist. Ross Carlson then made it a two goal game as he took a pass from Dylan Stanley and Jordan Morrison to beat Ryan Nie and make the score 6-4. Just 1:13 later Harrison Reed scored an unassisted marker to bring the Everblades within 1 goal. With just two-seconds remaining Ross Carlson scored again to tie the game 6-6 and send the game into overtime.
