Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals fell to the Wheeling Nailers 4-1 at First Arena on Friday, as the Nailers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Jackals were able to get on the scoreboard in front of 3,629 fans.
Thomas Beauregard's 12th goal of the season at 12:44 of the first period gave the Nailers the momentum in the contest. Cleve Kinley slid a pass through the crease, and Beauregard one-timed it back door past Jackals goaltender Michael-Lee Teslak on the power play. It gave Wheeling a 1-0 lead and the Nailers did not look back. The Nailers took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Chris Capraro at 17:05 of the first period, and had the two-goal lead entering the second period.
Aaron Clarke scored short handed for the Nailers at 6:45 of the second period on a two-on-one to make it 3-0 in favor of Wheeling, and former Jackal Slavomir Tomko notched his second goal in three games against the Jackals at 13:09 for the 4-0 advantage.
The Jackals appeared to get on the board a few minutes into the third period, as Jean-Francois David wristed a shot past Nailers goaltender Adam Berkhoel that appeared to cross over the goal line, but referee Joe Sullivan waved it off. Olivier Proulx scored his seventh goal of the season at 13:53 off a rebound after an initial shot by Chanse Fitzpatrick was stopped by Berkhoel. However, that was the closest the Jackals would get, as the Nailers won 4-1.
The loss, combined with a Reading victory, pushed the Jackals into second place in the American East Division. They fell to 9-5-2-1, while Wheeling improved to 6-9-1-1.
Teslak made 15 saves on 19 Nailers shots, falling to 4-2-1-1, while Berkhoel upped his record to 4-3-0-1 by making 20 stops on 21 Jackals shots.
The Jackals head to Trenton for a 7:00 p.m. game Saturday against the Devils, and return to First Arena on Sunday for a 4:05 p.m. game with Trenton.
