Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals fell to the Trenton Devils 3-2 on Saturday night at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton N.J., as the Jackals were unable to overcome a 3-0 second-period deficit in their fourth straight loss to the Devils.

While the Elmira outshot Trenton 45-20 on the game, the Devils made the most of their scoring opportunities.

A power-play goal by Andy Thomas on a shot from at the right point at 10:43 of the first period put the Devils up 1-0.

It appeared that the Jackals would enter the second period down by only a goal, but Trevor Kell found Brett Wilson in front who backhanded the puck past Jackals goaltender Michael-Lee Teslak with 0.3 seconds remaining in the period for the 2-0 lead.

After a missed Jackals offensive zone opportunity, Kell took the puck up the left wing on a three-on-two for the Devils and fired the puck past Teslak for the 3-0 lead 50 seconds into the second period.

The Jackals struck back moments later. Justin Donati's initial shot on the power play was stopped by Devils goaltender Dave Caruso, but Yannick Tifu knocked in the rebound to make it 3-1 at 3:19 of the second period.

Late in the game, with Teslak pulled and the extra attacker on the ice, the Jackals made it a one goal game. Jean-Francois David's shot from the blue line was deflected and wound up on the stick of Tifu, who scored his second goal of the game and third of the season at 18:04 of the third period. Olivier Proulx was also credited with an assist on the play. However, the Devils kept the Jackals out of the Trenton zone for much of the remainder of play, and the Devils prevailed 3-2.

Caruso made 43 saves on 45 Jackals bids, improving to 3-6-1-0. Teslak fell to 4-3-1-1, stopping 17 of 20 Devils shots.

The Jackals record dropped to 9-6-2-1, while the Devils climbed to within two points in the American East Division of the second place Jackals, upping their record to 8-8-1-2.

The Jackals host the Devils on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at First Arena. After the game, fans are invited to skate with the Jackals on the First Arena ice.
