Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The Kalamazoo Wings used a stingy defense and an opportunistic offense to spark a 4-0 victory Friday (10/13) night in front of the largest opening night crowd (4,126) in Jackals history. Goaltender Tom Askey set aside all 23 shots he faced, while rookie forward B.J. Radovich ignited the K-Wings attack by netting two goals in his pro debut. In a game marred with penalties, the K-Wings went 3 for 19 on the power-play, while killing off all eight of the Jackals man-advantage opportunities. It was a team effort for Kalamazoo, as 10 of their 16 skaters recorded a point in the victory. The win moved Kalamazoo's record to 5-2-0 in UHL openers, while elevating Head Coach Mark Reeds record to 4-0-0 on opening nights as the bench boss of the K-Wings.
The K-Wings abbreviated two-game road swing came to an end on Sunday (10/15) with the second engagement against the Jackals, Powered by Kory Karlander's three point night (2 goals, 1 assist) the K-Wings disposed of the Jackals 5-1. Tying Karlander for the team lead in scoring was Tyler Willis, who added a goal and two assists in the victory. For the second straight game, goaltender Tom Askey was brilliant impeding 34 of the 35 shots. The K-Wings penalty kill remained perfect on the season eliminating all nine Jackals' chances in the contest. The victory puts the K-Wings in a tie with the Muskegon Fury for first place honors in the Eastern Division.

Killing Time

Big Willie Style
Forward Tyler Willis is closing in on two personal milestones. Willis needs four assists to reach 200 for his career. The veteran is also one assist shy of reaching 100 in his K-Wings career.
Stone Wall
Goaltender Tom Askey was a stone wall in both of the K-Wings victories last week. Askey, who went 2-0-0, stopped 57 of the 58 shots he faced against Elmira.
The Obscure Stat of the Week
The K-Wings scored first in both games they played last week and in the process continued a winning trend. Since joining the UHL, Kalamazoo has a record of 201-58-15 when scoring before their opposition.
