
UHL names players of the week

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Muskegon Fury center Elias Godoy has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Tom Askey has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 16th, 2006.
Godoy completed the week with six points (3g, 3a) and a plus-2 rating in two games played. He tallied three points (2g, 1a) in Friday's season opening 7-3 win vs. Bloomington. He netted a power play goal and an unassisted goal in the victory. On Saturday, he again had three points (1g, 2a) in the 9-2 defeat of Quad City. The 25-year-old native of West Vancouver, British Columbia is in his first full professional season. After the weekend, the rookie leads the UHL in scoring.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Andre Niec, Chicago left wing Steve Cygan, Elmira right wing Frank Littlejohn, Flint forward Jan Eriksson, Fort Wayne center Bruce Richardson, Kalamazoo center Kory Karlander, Quad City forward Jesse Rycroft, and Rockford right wing Chaz Johnson.
Askey finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 0.50 goals against average (GAA), a .983 save percentage (SPCT), and one shutout. He made his UHL debut on Friday and recorded 23 saves in the 4-0 shutout victory vs. Elmira. On Sunday, he allowed just one goal and stopped 34 shots in the 5-1 win against Elmira. The 32-year-old Tonawanda, New York native currently leads the UHL in GAA, SPCT, and has recorded the only shutout in the league this season.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Jeff Reynaert, Chicago's Marty Magers, Elmira's Shawn Degagne, Flint's Bryan Worosz, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Muskegon's Ryan Cyr, Port Huron's Dustin Traylen, Quad City's Scott Gray, and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier.
