Chicago Hounds Win First Game in Franchise History

October 16, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Chicago Hounds News Release

The Chicago Hounds took on division rivals the RockFord Ice Hogs at the Rockford MetroCente in the first game in franchise history.

Greg Koehler scored the Hounds first goal at 18:47 when he knocked in a rebound past Ice Hogs goaltender, Fredric Cloutier to tie the game at 1-1.

Shorthanded goals were the story in the second period. Both Maris Ziedins and Adam Kostichka buried their chances on breakaways and put the Hounds up 3-1 after two.

Rockford center Steve Yetman scored on his own rebound in the third at 7:42 cutting the lead to 3-2. However, former Ice Hog turned Hound Steve Cygan netted the game winner on the power play just 45 seconds after Yetman's tally. A late goal by Rockford's Robin Big Snake was not enough and the Hounds skated off with a 4-3 victory. Chicago goaltender Marty Magers finished with 37 saves on 40 shots.

The Hounds start a two game swing into Michigan starting on October 20th in Flint and the 21st in Muskegon.

The first Hounds home game of the year will be on November 3rd when The Generals visit the brand new Sears Centre on Friday night. The Sears Centre is an 11,000-seat state of the art multi-purpose family entertainment, sports and cultural center under construction in Hoffman Estates' Prairie Stone Business Park. Located right at I-90 and Route 59, it will host more than 135 events each year, and is projected to attract more than 750,000 annual visitors.
