Kalamazoo Wings News Release
For the Week of November 18-24th Record Last Week: 2-0-1 Overall Record 4-8-3
Game Rewind The K-Wings played three games in three nights last weekend. Kalamazoo started the week at home on Friday (11/15) as they hosted the Quad City Mallards. Quad City would start the scoring in the opening period with a goal from Jesse Rooney (6) to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead. The K-Wings would tie the game at 1-1 in the second period, with a goal from the slot by Tyson Turgeon (2). The game would remain tied until the third period, when the K-Wings would get the eventual game-winning goal by Richard Keyes (8). The K-Wings would seal the victory with less then a minute remaining in the game, when Mark Lawrence (2) scored a short handed, empty net goal to give the K-Wings a 3-1 victory over the Mallards. The K-Wings star of the game was Chad Alban, who returned to the K-Wings lineup for the first time since suffering a injury back on October 19th. Chad stopped 43 of 44 shots to secure the win for Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo will stay at home on Saturday (11/16) as they faced division rival the Missouri River Otters in the first game of a home and home series. Missouri would jump out to a 2-nothing lead midway in the opening period with goals from J.P Beilsten (2), and Jason Gudmundson (7). The K-Wings would cut the River Otter lead in half near the end of the period when Jordan Trew scored his first goal of the season on a rebound off of a Justin Cardwell shot. After the goal, Cardwell needed to be helped off the ice, due to an injury, and didn't return to the game. The loss of Cardwell didn't slow the K-Wings, as Kalamazoo would tie the game up in the second period with a goal from Jim Brown (2). The K-Wings would gain the lead early in the third period, with power play goal from Peter Roed (8). The River Otters would answer Roed's goal with one of their own to make the score 3-3. The K-Wings would regain the lead with less than 3 minutes remaining in regulation on a goal by Kurt Miller (3), to give the K-Wings a 4-3 lead. Missouri would tie the game up 38 seconds later with a goal by Joe Ritson (8). From there the game would head into a shootout. In the extra session, Missouri would out score the K-Wings 2-1, as Missouri would go on to defeat Kalamazoo by the final of 5-4 in a shootout.
The K-Wings would finish out the week on Sunday, as they played the second half of the home and home series against Missouri. For the second straight night, it would be J.P Beilsten (3) that would score the games first goal to give the River Otters a one-nothing lead. The score would remain the same until the second period, when the K-Wings would capitalize on two straight power play opportunities. Both power play goals were scored by Criag Bilick (2,3), which gave the K-Wings a 2-1 lead. Missouri would tie the game up near the midway point of the second period with a power play goal from Dustin Whitecotton (5). The 2-2 score would be broken in the third period, when Missouri regained the lead on a goal from Lonnie Loach (7) to make the score 4-3 in favor of the River Otters. The K-Wings would tie the game up at 3-3 later in the period with a goal from Jordan Trew (2). For the second straight night the K-Wings and River Otters would head into a shootout. Unlike, the night prior it would be the K-Wings that would rule the shootout, as Kalamazoo would outscore Missouri 2-0 in the extra session en route to a 4-3 vicotry.
