San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - Clayton Read earned Player of the Week honors, while Trevor Koenig notched Co-Goaltender of the Week, the West Coast Hockey League announced today.

Read is in the midst of a four-game point-scoring streak, which started Tuesday Nov. 12 against the Fresno Falcons. In those four games, Read has collected six points (2g, 4a), five of which came in a three-game weekend series against the Anchorage Aces. The 26-year-old winger is now tied for third on team scoring with 12 points (3g, 9a). His nine assists are tops among the Blue and Orange and sixth in the league.

Koenig grabs Goaltender of the Week honors for the first time this season. The 27-year-old netminder went 2-0 last week with a 1.00 goals against average. Koenig stopped 17 shots Friday night, en route to an easy 4-1 win over the Aces.

Saturday night, he also turned aside 17 shots, including all four Anchorage attempts in a shootout, to skate away with a 2-1 triumph. Koenig leads the league with 744 minutes between the pipes and has accumulated a 7-5-1 record with a 2.26 GAA and .913 save percentage. The all-star goaltender shares this week's award with the Bakersfield Condors' Kevin St. Pierre.

The Gulls conclude their road trip Tuesday in Fresno, with game time set at 7 p.m. San Diego opens a two-game homestand Tuesday Nov. 26 against the Falcons. All games can be heard live on 1130AM-KSDO and at www.ksdo.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. The Gulls' Internet radio show broadcasts live every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on wsradio.com with Tera Black and Jeremy Zager hosting.
