Kingfish fall to Bandits 4-3
November 19, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release
Three late third period goals by the Kingfish was not enough to propel Baton Rouge past Jackson, as the Kingfish are now winless in their last 10 games.
The Kingfish, who have only scored the first just twice this season, surrendered the first four goals of the game before adding three third period tallies.
Jackson jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal as Sean O' Connor beat Jeff Blair at the 13:38 mark of the opening period.
John McNabb's shorthanded goal a little over a minute later gave the Bandits the 2-0 lead. Brian Forslund fed McNabb on the 2-on-1 break to set up the goal. Reagan Rome also added an assist on the goal.
McNabb's second of the game gave the Bandits a 3-0 lead just 2:38 into the second period as he beat Blair top shelf. Mike Vigilante and Mike Oliveira added the assists on the goal.
Three and a half minutes into the third period Oliveira gave the Bandits a 4-0 lead. Mark Thompson added an assist.
The Kingfish finally got things going five minutes into the third period as Sean Peach tallied his first of the season as he sent a laser past Greg Garner. Bryan Richardson added an assist.
Trevor Wasyluk cut the Jackson lead in half as he buried a loose puck past Garner at the 7:50 mark. Richardson and Garnet Jacobson picked up the helpers on the goal.
Sean Peach made things interesting as he cut the Jackson lead to one as he fired a loose puck from the left face-off circle and beat Garner with just 43 seconds left in the third. Richardson and Wasyluk added the assists on the goal.
With his assists this game, Richardson sits as 99 helpers and needs just one more assist for 100 career assists as a Kingfish.
The Kingfish went scoreless on the power play while the Bandits converted on one of their six power play chances. With the loss, the Kingfish drop to 0-7-3 in their last 10 games, and are 3-11-3 overall.
The Kingfish hit the road for their next 4 games as they travel to Lafayette on Friday, Mississippi on Sunday and on Thanksgiving Day and close out the trip with a visit to Little Rock to battle the RiverBlades on November 29th.
