K-Tribe Piles on Salem With 7-2 Win

The Kinston Indians broke a 2-2 tie with five runs in the top of the eighth inning, going on to beat Salem 7-2 Thursday night in Virginia. K-Tribe newcomer Carlos Santana led off the inning with a triple and was driven in on an RBI single by Jared Goedert after an intentional walk to Beau Mills. Mills and Goedert would both score on a double by Johnny Drennen after an intentional walk to Niuman Romero. Romero would trot home one batter later on an error by Salem third baseman Jhon Florentino. Kinston banged out ten hits on the night.

Jeanmar Gomez put in a solid start for Kinston, giving up just two earned runs through 6 2/3 innings. K-Tribe reliever Matt Meyer (4-1) got the well deserved win, retiring all four batters he faced and striking out three. Neil Wagner pitched a scoreless ninth to finish the game for Kinston. Jordan Powell (0-1) got the loss for Salem.

Kinston is now 57-51 overall this season, improving to 22-17 in the second half. The K-Tribe continues their weeklong roadtrip with game two of their four game series Friday night in Salem. Hector Rondon takes the mound for Kinston, start time 7:07.
