Kingsport Axmen News Release

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - A steady stream of extra-base hits was the remedy for the Kingsport Mets' losing streak. The K-Mets tallied four doubles and a home run, snapping their three-game skid with a 5-2 victory over the Burlington Royals Thursday night at Hunter Wright Stadium.

Kingsport (11-15) had lost three in a row and four of five dating back to last week's divisional road trip. The K-Mets fell behind in the first inning, as they have many times in home games thus far this season, but bounced back quickly on the first double by Oswald Caraballo, which scored J.C. Rodriguez from first base.

Luis Guillorme, Rodriguez and Luis Ortega contributed to the double barrage as well, and Wuilmer Becerra punctuated the night with a solo home run to right field - his fourth of the season, tying the injured Brandon Brosher for the team high. Becerra homered twice on Monday against the Bristol Pirates.

Ortega, Rodriguez and catcher Juan Garcia each finished with two base hits. Ortega also was responsible of one of Kingsport's three sacrifice flies. Caraballo and Pedro Perez also tallied sac flies in the third inning, as Kingsport broke open a tied game to take a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish.

Martires Arias (2-0), making his first start of the season, put in five steady innings to tally the win. Arias fanned four, allowing four hits and a pair of walks. Two of those hits came in the first inning, as Burlington took a 2-0 lead on Brandon Dulin's two-run double.

Ty Williams worked two scoreless, hitless innings to tally his first professional save.

These two teams play the rubber game of their Appalachian League series Friday night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
