July 18, 2014 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release
Johnson City took the second game of their series against the Pulaski Mariners 6-5. The Cardinals overcame a 5-0 deficit by scoring six times in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Zack Littell (2-3, 6.46 ERA) started for the Mariners and was on cruise control early. He mowed down the Johnson City batters over the first three innings-allowing only one hit and striking out three.
The wheels fell off for Littell in the fourth inning. The Cardinals got to him for six runs on five hits-all singles-and chased Littell with only one out in the frame.
The Mariners scored early and often. They scored once in the second and twice in both the third and fourth innings. Rafael Fernandez contributed with three hits, two runs batted in, and one run scored.
Eventually, the Cardinals' bullpen settled down, and shut out the Mariners over the final five innings.
Carlton Tanabe ended his hitting streak at twelve games. Tanabe did not start the game, but did enter as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. He grounded out to the shortstop in his only at bat.
The two teams contest the rubber match of the series tomorrow night at 7pm.
