Greeneville Astros News Release
Bluefield, WV - The Greeneville Astros (12-14) were shutout, 8-0, by the Bluefield Blue Jays (15-12) on Thursday night at Bowen Field. Bluefield took advantage of their opportunities, and four Astros errors, to seize control of the game early and never turned back.
Eight different Blue Jays batters combined for 14 hits, including going seven-for-nineteen with runners in scoring position.
Six Blue Jays picked up two hits apiece, which included three doubles. Meanwhile, the Astros did not pick up their first hit until the fifth inning and were held to just three on the night.
Yonathan Mejia led the Astros at the plate in going two-for-three and drawing a walk. However, Jason Martin was the only other player in the lineup to pick up a hit as the team combined to go zero-for-five with runners in scoring position.
Blue Jays left-hander Ryan Borucki (2-1) started and earned the win after pitching five innings and surrendering just one hit with five strikeouts. Then, Evan Smith pitched the final four innings, gave up two hits and also struck out five.
The Astros will look to avoid a series sweep to the Blue Jays in game three on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
