Justin Jones Beats Cougars with Long Ball Again

August 10, 2019 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release

Burlington, Iowa - Justin Jones' second inning two-run homer was enough to hand the Kane County Cougars (68-49, 33-15) a 2-1 loss to the Burlington Bees (56-62, 17-31) on Saturday night at Community Field. Jones hit a walk-off homer against the Cougars on June 23rd in Burlington.

The Cougars grabbed a first inning lead. Joey Rose singled with two outs. A few pitches later, Rose came around to score on Buddy Kennedy's RBI double. Kennedy was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a triple.

Cougar starter Luis Frias tossed a perfect first inning, including two strikeouts. However, the second inning started with a walk to Nonie Williams. With one out, Jones stepped to the plate and cranked his ninth homer of the season over the left center field fence.

Jones' homer was all the offense necessary for the combination of Clayton Chatham and Eduardo Del Rosario on the mound for the Bees. Chatham (1-2) earned the win with six innings of one-run ball, including eight strikeouts. Del Rosario (2) took home the nine-out save with three shutout innings. He allowed one Cougars hit and struck out seven of the nine he set down. Frias (1-1) took his first Midwest League loss, lasting five innings and allowing both Bees' runs.

The Cougars play the middle game of the three-game set, beginning Sunday afternoon with a 2:00 first pitch. Follow the action live with Joe Brand on AM 1280 WBIG or on kccougars.com.
