Jupiter Drops Game One to Ft. Myers
June 8, 2021 - Florida State League (FSL)
Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
The Jupiter Hammerheads drop their first game of the series 7-4 as the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels visit town.
Jupiter jumped out to a quick start scoring two runs in the first inning. Victor Mesa Jr. and Cameron Barstad hit back-to-back doubles that got the offense going. Mesa Jr.'s double extended his hitting streak to six games. The Cuban native is now hitting .407 in June.
However, the Mighty Mussels answered and scored twice in the top of the second inning. Both runs came against starter Eury Perez; however, both were unearned. Perez pitched four innings Tuesday night. The Dominican native racked up eight strikeouts, which gives him a team-leading 30 punchouts on the season. The 18-year-old righty now has an ERA of 0.86 across his six starts.
Both teams would add to their scores in the fifth inning. JD Orr plated Nasim Nunez after a sharp double to right field, and Mesa Jr. picked up another RBI after a single. Going into the sixth inning Jupiter led 4-3. Unfortunately, Ft. Myers would tack on four runs in the seventh inning and take the game 7-4.
In the game, Jupiter shortstop Nasim Nunez continued to show off his speed and stole another base. The Marlins No. 13 overall prospect (MLB Pipeline) now has 20 stolen bases on the season, which is tied for second-best in all of Minor League Baseball. His teammates Mesa Jr. and Orr also swiped a bag in Tuesday's game.
Game two between the Hammerheads and Mighty Mussels will take place on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
