Montreal Juniors News Release

The opening round of a home-and-home series with the Quebec Ramparts went the distance on Friday night as Montreal knocked off Quebec City 5-4 in a shootout at the Verdun Auditorium.

Both teams traded goals to begin the game, with Quebec's Ryan Bourque opening the scoring 22 seconds in, while Montreal's Trevor Parkes tied the game just over one minute later with his sixth of the season. Despite the barrage of action at the beginning of the period, the teams traded shots the rest of the way, going into the locker room tied at 1-1.

The Juniors started the second period much like the first, as Louis Leblanc capitalized on a turnover in the Remparts' zone to nail a wrist shot past a stunned Louis Dominigue. It took a power play opportunity for Quebec City to even the score as Frederick Roy beat Jean-Francois Berube for his fourth goal of the year, ensuring the teams remained tied at the end of two periods.

Momentum was squarely in the corner of Quebec City to begin the third as Martin Lefebvre snapped a wrist shot from the outer circle to give the Remparts a 3-2 lead just four minutes in. Joel Champagne followed with his 12th of the year, pushing Quebec City's lead to two goals. With their backs against the wall, the Juniors found their legs in the final eight minutes to mount a comeback as Trevor Parkes notched his second of the game and Francis Meilleur followed suit only a few minutes later to tie the score at 4-4.

Although Montreal and Quebec City traded multiple scoring chances in overtime, Jeremy Gouchie helped his team walk away victorious, netting the winning goal in a shootout.
