The Mudcats wrap up a seven game road trip today with the finale of a four game series against the Frederick Keys at Nymeo Field in Frederick, MD. Carolina enters today's game at 23-32 and currently in third place behind the Salem Red Sox and Myrtle Beach Pelicans in the Carolina League Southern Division First Half Standings. The Mudcats defeated the Keys 11-3 last night and are now 4-3 against the Keys this season. The Mudcats have also won two straight and currently sit at 3-3 in their road trip.
Cary and Green Hope High School's Max Povse starts for the Mudcats in this morning's series finale against the Keys. Povse is 3-3 this season and has pitched to a 2.98 ERA over 10 starts this year. He is currently 7th in the league in ERA (2.98), 2nd in strikeouts (61) and 5th in highest SO/9ip ratio (9.58) among qualified starters. Povse is also 3rd in the K/BB (4.69), 2nd in FIP (2.27) and leads the league in HR/9 (0.16, 1hr in 57.1ip) this season. He last pitched on 6/2 in Winston-Salem and suffered his first loss since 5/3 after allowing five runs (four earned) on a season high nine hits over 5.0 innings pitched. Povse 2-1 with a 2.39 ERA over six home starts this season and 1-2 with a 4.12 ERA over four road starts this season. He is also 1-1 with a 2.05 ERA over four day time starts this season.
