Bobby Bradley scored Lynchburg's only run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning, as Salem led wire-to-wire to claim a 5-1 victory over the Hillcats at LewisGale Field Tuesday night.

SALEM STRIKES FIRST

Salem improved to 12-0 at home when scoring the first run of the game after the Red Sox tallied the initial run in the opening frame. Yoan Moncada singled, advanced to second on a groundout and stole third base to put himself in position to score with only one out. Mike Meyers brought him in with a groundout to second base.

Salem added two more in the fourth thanks to three consecutive hits. Nick Longhi and Rafael Devers both singled, and Danny Mars followed with a double to plate Longhi. Devers came home one batter later on an RBI groundout by Joseph Monge.

LYNCHBURG BREAKS THROUGH

Lynchburg's lone run occurred in the sixth. Bobby Bradley doubled to right-center field with one out, moved to third on a line-drive single by Paul Hendrix, and scored on a wild pitch by reliever Mario Alcantara. By doing so, the Hillcats remained the only team in the Carolina League that has avoided a shutout in every game this season. All seven other teams have been shut out at least three times in 2016.

Salem stretched the final score to 5-1 with a two-run eighth that included RBI singles by Longhi and Monge. Matt Kent (5-3) went 5 2/3 innings to earn the victory. He held Lynchburg to one run on eight hits, striking out seven and walking none. Kent has only allowed four runs in 24 2/3 frames against the 'Cats.

Bobby Poyner notched his second save in as many chances by striking out three over the final 1 2/3 stanzas. Justus Sheffield (4-2) took the loss after surrendering three runs on five hits in four innings.
