FULL TEAM EFFORT FOR ANOTHER WIN The Portland Sea Dogs double down to defeat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 9-1 on Saturday night. Chase Meidroth worked a walk in the top of the first to extend his team-leading on-base streak to twenty-two games. Portland took the early lead with two runs in the inning courtesy of a two-RBI double from Phillip Sikes (13). The scoring continued in the top of the third after an RBI single from Alex Binelas along with an RBI double from Corey Rosier (10) to put Portland up 4-0. In the top of the fourth, Chase Meidroth reached on a fielder's choice allowing Nick Yorke to score and Portland led, 5-0. Tyler McDonough hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth to score Binelas and extend the 6-0 lead. An RBI single from Brandon McIlwain in the bottom of the sixth put Binghamton on the board. Portland plated three runs in the top of the seventh as Nathan Hickey led it off with a solo home run to record his sixth of the season. Corey Rosier hit his third double of the ballgame before a pair of back-to-back RBI doubles from McDonough and Rafaela put Portland on top, 9-1.
MEIDROTH'S STREAK CONTINUES Chase Meidroth is currently riding a 22 game on base streak, the longest on base streak by a Sea Dog this season. Dating back to May 16, he is batting .288 with three doubles, four home runs and 13 RBI. He has drawn 16 walks and has struck out 14 times. Meidroth also has swiped two bases.
ROSIER RACKS UP THREE DOUBLES Last night, Corey Rosier recorded three doubles for Portland in his four-hit performance. His three doubles was a new career-high while his four hits was his season-high so far with Portland.
WELCOME TO PORTLAND Prior to tonight's game, RHP Robert Kwiatkowski was promoted from High-A Greenville to join the Sea Dogs. He appeared in 17 games for High-A Greenville Drive. Kwiatkowski tossed 22.2 innings allowing 15 runs (12 earned) on 21 hits while walking seven and striking out 25. He was 4-4 in save opportunities with Greenville.
OFF TO TRIPLE-A RHP Ryan Fernandez was promoted to Triple-A prior to tonight's game. Through five appearances in June, he tossed 7.0 innings without allowing an earned run while walking three and striking out 10. Fernandez held opposing hitters to a .192 average this month.
WHERE DO WE STAND With a win last night, the Sea Dogs are now just 0.5 games behind the first place Somerset Patriots. The New Hampshire Fisher Cats are in third place, 5.0 games behind Somerset while the Binghamton Rumble Ponies remain in fourth place, 7.0 games out of first place.
THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY June 18, 2004 - Jimmy Alvarez drove in the winning run in the 11th inning to cap a three-run comeback in a 5-4 Sea Dogs win at Binghamton. Four Sea Dog relievers combined for 8.2 scoreless innings.
ON THE MOUND LHP Skylar Arias will start for the second time in his career tonight. He has pitched exclusively out of the bullpen for Portland this season and has a 1-0 record with 4.64 ERA. Arias last pitched on June 7 against the Akron RubberDucks at Hadlock Field. He tossed 2.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits while walking one and striking out five.
