Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
BILOXI, Miss. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (15-26, 43-66) fell to the Biloxi Shuckers (22-18, 63-47) by a 3-0 score in the second game of the five-game series at MGM Park on Friday night.
Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Kolton Mahoney (3-7) took the loss, allowing two runs (both earned) in his six innings of work on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Biloxi right-handed starter Trey Supak (3-6) earned the win, also working six innings in scoreless fashion where he allowed four hits, walking one batter while striking out four. Biloxi right-handed relief pitcher Nate Griep worked a scoreless ninth to earn his Southern League-best 28th save of the season.
After Mahoney's first five innings were scoreless, the Shuckers broke through in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run single by Lucas Erceg to take a 2-0 lead. Against left-handed Jacksonville reliever Scott Squier in the bottom of the seventh, Biloxi's Clint Coulter sent the first pitch he saw over the left-center field wall to build the lead to 3-0, which would be the final.
In the bottom of the eighth, Tommy Eveld made his Marlins organization debut with a scoreless inning striking out two batters. Eveld was just acquired by Miami at the trade deadline from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for veteran major league right-hander Brad Ziegler.
The Jumbo Shrimp will continue their five-game series with the Biloxi Shuckers with the third game of the five-game set at MGM Park at 7:35 p.m. eastern on Saturday night. Right-handed starting pitcher Nick Neidert (9-6, 3.06 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Biloxi left-hander Cameron Roegner (0-0, 3.90 ERA).
