Mobile BayBears News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, gave up five runs in the first inning but scored nine unanswered runs to capture a 9-5 victory over the Birmingham Barons Friday night at Regions Field.
For the second straight game, five BayBears (54-54 overall, 17-23 second half) players had multi-hit games. Meanwhile, the pitching staff allowed just one hit after Jose Rodriguez (7-9) was tagged for five runs on three hits the first inning.
Jack Kruger had his third straight multi-hit game and matched his career-high with four RBIs. His two-run double sparked a five-run top of the third, and he knocked Birmingham (54-56, 22-20) starter Matt Tomshaw (4-6) out of the game with an RBI single in the fourth.
Jahmai Jones, Sherman Johnson, and Roberto Baldoquin, who hit his first Double-A home run to lead off the fifth, all had two hits. Jones scored a pair of runs, including the go-ahead run in the fourth, and Johnson crossed home to tie the game in the third after hitting a two-run double.
Friday's game marked the largest comeback win of the season for the BayBears, and it was also Mobile's fifth straight road victory.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Birmingham Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CDT. Right-handed pitcher Jason Alexander (0-5, 4.65 ERA) is scheduled to make the start against righty Dylan Cease (2-0, 2.34 ERA) for the Barons.
