CHRIS SALE WAS UNHITTABLE - Chris Sale made a rehab appearance last night in front of a sellout crowd at Hadlock Field. The Red Sox ace tossed 3.2 hitless innings with one walk and six strikeouts. The Sea Dogs went on to secure the win 6-3 over the Harrisburg Senators to extend their winning streak to 14 games.
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS - Portland extended their winning streak to 14 games last night, securing a new franchise-record. The total amount of victories in this streak is still to be determined due to a suspended game that will be complete in September, but even without that factored in, the Sea Dogs have set a new franchise-record with 13 consecutive wins.
STILL IN THE TOP SPOT - The Sea Dogs remain in first place in the Double-A Northeast League and are 2.0 games ahead of second-place Somerset Patriots (40-26). The Akron RubberDucks (38-27) are in third place, 3.5 games behind Portland.
SEA DOGS LOVE JULY - While the Sea Dogs are riding the longest winning streak in franchise history, Portland hitters are shining at the plate. Five Sea Dogs are hitting over .300 in the month of July. Devlin Granberg and Ronaldo Hernandez are each hitting .400. Granberg has three doubles, one triple and four homers with 12 RBI. Hernandez is 18-for-45 with six doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI. Six current Portland pitchers have not allowed a run in the month of July while the starters have a 4.70 ERA.
LARGEST CROWD OF THE YEAR - Hadlock Field hosted its largest crowd of the year last night with a sellout of 7,368 fans. This was the largest crowd since September 1, 2019 which was the penultimate game of the season and last game played until May 4, 2021.
CASTELLANOS AND HERNANDEZ RIDING THEIR OWN STREAKS - Pedro Castellanos is currently on an eight game hitting streak for the Sea Dogs. In his eight games, Castellanos is 11-for-33 (.333) with four doubles, two home runs and six RBI. He has drawn two walks and has struck out five times. He also has a .361 OBP and .636 slugging percentage. Ronaldo Hernandez is also riding a six-game hitting streak. He is 9-for-23 (.391) with five doubles, one home run and five RBI. He is slugging .739 and has a .440 OBP.
ON THE MOUND - Kutter Crawford will be on the mound tonight for the Portland Sea Dogs. Crawford last started 7/15 at Reading and tossed 6.0 innings allowing one run (solo homer) on three hits while striking out eight. Crawford has not issued a free pass in 12.0 innings while recording 18 strikeouts in that time. He has faced the Senators once this season. In Harrisburg on 6/1, Crawford tossed 5.0 innings allowing one run on one hits (solo home run) while walking two and striking out six.
