Last Time Out.

The Joliet Slammers once again came out firing on all cylinders on Tuesday morning, as they turned in an all-around strong performance to crush the Windy City ThunderBolts by a score of 9-1. Continuing their hot hitting, the Slammers matched their season-high in hits with 16 for the second straight day. Brad Netzel started the scoring off early, hitting a solo home run with one out in the first inning. The Slammers never looked back, as they scored four in the second inning, highlighted by three more RBIs for Netzel on a bases-clearing double. The lead was more than enough for Brian Fowler, who held the ThunderBolts to one run and three hits in 6.2 innings. The bullpen was lights out as usual, and two runs for the Slammers in the eighth brought the final score to 9-1. The Slammers go for the sweep in tonight's 7:05 start.

For Starters.

Billy Petrick has won three of his last four starts and survived a shaking outing last time out to earn his fourth victory of the season. Against Normal on July 10, he gave up 12 hits and five runs in five innings, but got the win as his team provided a lot of run support in an 8-6 victory. Petrick has faced Windy City twice this year with mixed results. His first start against the ThunderBolts came on May 26 as he took the loss, going five innings, giving up three runs on four hits in a 3-2 loss. But his next start was a dominating one as he went seven innings on June 23, giving up only two runs on nine hits while striking out a personal season high six batters in a 14-4 win. Loyal Cubs fans might remember Petrick. He played for them just four years ago. The 27-year old from Morris, Illinois was selected by Chicago in the third round of the 2002 Amateur Draft. Petrick made a big splash in 2007. He started the year in Daytona and after six strong games was promoted to Double-A Tennessee. With the Smokies he was 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA in 18 games before moving up to the Iowa Cubs. After only nine games with Iowa, Petrick got the call every player dreams of hearing: he was going to "The Show." Petrick stepped on the mound for the first time at baseball's highest level on June 27, 2007 at Wrigley Field against the Colorado Rockies. He held opponents scoreless in five out of eight appearances. Since his time with the Cubs, Petrick spent 2008 with Daytona before being granted free agency. He pitched effectively for the Windy City ThunderBolts in 2009 until surgery ended his season.

Offensive explosion.

The Slammers have scored a total of 29 runs over their past three games. That's the most runs they've collected during any three game stretch this season. During this time they've also pounded out a record high 46 hits.

Hit men.

The 16 hits the Slammers tallied yesterday matched their previous high water mark, set the previous game and on June 23, all three 16-hit games came against the ThunderBolts.

#Winning.

With their win yesterday the Slammers are a season-high eight games over .500 and a season high 2.5 games up in the East Division.

Road Warriors as of late.

The Slammers are in the midst of their longest road winning streak of the year as they've won their last six games away from Silver Cross Field. Joliet's recent hot streak has allowed them to have a winning record of 14-12 away from home.

Walking to first and crossing the plate.

Kyle Maunus is only hitting .226 this season but he leads the team in walks with 25. Maunus has scored at least one run in eight consecutive games for the Slammers and leads the team with 36 runs scored.

Transaction Wire.

Brian Fowler was activated from the Disabled List yesterday.
