Frederick Keys News Release
Keys 1B Jacob Julius homered twice but it was not enough as Wilmington jumped all over the Keys early taking an 8-0 lead through two innings sending Frederick to an 11-5 defeat. The loss was the third in a row for Frederick in Wilmington and the Keys will try to salvage a game in the series on Saturday night.
Wilmington jumped on the Keys early again as DH Wil Myers singled home two runs with two outs in the first inning. It would not be the worst of it though as the first five batters of the Wilmington second inning reached base. They would all score. All-in-all 12 men came to the plate as the Blue Rocks scored six runs on eight hits to open the game up, 8-0.
Keys starter Oliver Drake nobly stayed in the game battling through five innings.
Frederick would get back into the thick of things via the long ball. Down 8-1 in the fifth inning, RF Ronnie Welty doubled to lead off the inning. Julius then launched a two-run home run to right field, his 11th home run of the year to make it 8-3. Three batters later, SS Pedro Florimon homered to bring the Keys within 8-4.
That would be as close as the Keys could get. Down 11-4 in the seventh inning Julius became the second Key to homer twice in the game with a line-drive solo shot to right. Ronnie Welty homered twice in the Keys home opener April 13th against Myrtle Beach.
Frederick will try to salvage a game of its four-game series with Wilmington Saturday, July 17th at 7:05 p.m. LHP Nathan Moreau is due to start with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on The Keys Baseball Network.
The Keys return home for 50 cent hot dog night presented by Dietz and Watson Thursday, July 22nd against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase on frederickkeys.com.
