Bradenton Juice News Release
Port Charlotte, FL- The Bradenton Juice were held scoreless until the 6th inning but that did not matter as the Juice defeated the Charlotte County Redfish 7-5 on Tuesday at the Charlotte Sports Park. LHP Lavelle Morgan had another solid outing for the Juice and the Bradenton bats came alive for two big innings to clinch the series win over the Redfish.
Charlotte County scored first with Millard Dawson leading off the game with a single to left field and two batters later Josh Murray smacked a single to center field. One of the best hitters in the South Coast League William Plaza then doubled to left field driving home Dawson making it 1-0 Redfish.
Bradenton got on the board in the 6th inning when with one out Julius Thames singled to left field and Al Corbeil followed by drawing an intentional walk. Eddie Kim then walked to load the bases and two batters later pinch hitter Noah Peery squeaked a single through the right side of the Redfish infield plating Thames and Corbeil putting the Juice up 2-0.
The Juice's big inning on Tuesday night was the 7th inning when 11 batters came to the plate. With one out Drew York drew a walk and then pinch hitter Jean Castro singled to right. Then Luke Barganier smacked a double to right field that scored York putting the Juice up 3-1. Julius Thames followed with his second single of the night, this time to right field driving in Barganier. Next, Al Corbeil reached on an error and then Eddie Kim walked for the second time in the game. With the bases loaded Mikela Olsen drove in a run the easy way as he was hit by a pitch. Then the 9th batter of the inning Noah Peery walked, driving in the 6th Juice run of the night. Brenan Herrera then came to the plate for the second time in the inning and he reached on an error that Kim scored on putting Bradenton up 7-1.
The Redfish were not done fighting yet as they scored a run in the 7th and then they scored three in the 9th when Josh Murray smacked a 3-run home run deep over the left field wall cutting the Juice lead to 7-5. But Steve Alverson was able to get the next batter Aaron Simmons to strikeout to end the game with the Juice holding on for the 7-5 win.
Bradenton improves to 19-13 with its 3rd straight win and Charlotte County lost for the 6th time in a row and the Redfish are now 8-26.
Of note for Bradenton both Luke Barganier and Julius Thames went 2-5 with Barganier hitting a single and a double, scoring a run and driving in another. Thames had two singles, he scored twice and he also drove in a run.
On the mound for Bradenton Lavelle Morgan (4-2) had another good outing pitching 7 innings, allowing a run (earned), on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 8. Ricardo Gomez (0-1) did pretty well in his first start with the Redfish going 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs (all earned) on 2 hits, walking 3 and striking out 8. But the four relievers who came in the game after Gomez could not stop the Juice as they allowed 5 runs on 4 hits.
Bradenton has already won the series and it will go for its first series sweep since they took all 3 games from Anderson in the series that ended on June 12th. LHP Daniel Chaffardet (1-4) is scheduled to start for Charlotte County while RHP Travis Kane (2-0) is set to start for the Juice on Wednesday night. Back on June 30th Chaffardet went 6 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits, walking two, and striking out 5 batters as he got the win in the 7-4 Redfish victory.
