July 20, 2007 - Aiken, SC- The Bradenton Juice got great pitching from starter Rocky Collis and three relievers and the Juice scored early and often en route to defeating the Aiken Foxhounds 8-0 to avoid getting swept.
The Juice got the scoring started in the 1st with Julius Thames hitting an infield single and after stealing second base he reached third when Brenan Hererra grounded out. Up next Al Corbeil grounded out to second base and Thames scored on the play giving the Juice a 1-0 lead.
In the Bottom of the 2nd inning the Juice scored 6 runs with 9 batters coming to the plate. Luke Barganier led off with a single and Willie James then hit a bunt single. After a sacrifice bunt by Rocky Collis, Julius Thames reached base on an error that allowed Barganier to score giving Bradenton a 2-0 advantage. Up next Brenan Hererra singled to left field plating James and giving Bradenton a 3-0 cushion. The hits kept coming and in a big way when Al Corbeil stepped to the plate and he launched his 9th homerun of the season, a 3-run shot giving the Juice a 6-0 lead. Eddie Kim followed by hitting a solo homer over the right field wall, his 5th of the season.
The Juice tacked on another run in the 4th with Al Corbeil hitting a two-out single and Eddie Kim followed with a double to left field that Corbeil scored on giving the Juice an 8-0 lead.
Rocky Collis (3-5) pitched well for the Juice as the starter went 5 innings, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5 batters. Collis gave himself some cushion in the South Coast League standings for strikeouts remaining in second with 69.
Mark Dewey struggled taking the loss for Aiken, going 4 innings, allowing 8 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1 Juice batter.
Of note for the Juice Julius Thames had two singles, an RBI, and he scored once and Al Corbeil had a homer and a triple, driving in 4 runs. Eddie Kim finished a triple shy of the cycle by hitting a single, a homer, and a double while driving in 2 runs and Willie James was 2-4 with a bunt single and a double.
Bradenton is now 7-4 in the second half of the season and 31-24 overall while Aiken falls to 5-6 in the second half and 27-29 overall.
The Juice have two days off before starting a 3-game series with the South Georgia Peanuts on Monday at 7:10 in Albany, Georgia. The Peanuts won the first half of the South Coast League season and they have the best record in the league so far in the second half.
