Charlotte County Redfish News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- The Charlotte County Redfish and the Anderson Joes played a double-header Friday night as a result of a power failure the night before. Anderson took the first game in convincing fashion as they added 5 more runs as they set down the Redfish 7-3 in the opener.

Entering the ballgame, the Redfish found themselves behind as before the lights went out the night before, Richard Quihuis-Bell brought home the first run of the game with a double off the wall in right. After a Tanner Rogers' sacrifice bunt pushed Quihuis-Bell to third, Heath Keel singled up the middle and the Joes lead it 2-0.

When the teams picked up the action tonight, the Joes continued to pad their lead with Daniel Chaffardet on the mound for the Redfish. Keel singled home a run in the bottom of the 5th inning to push the score to 3-0. The Redfish got themselves on the scoreboard in the top of the 6th inning. Jose Gutierrez leadoff with a walk and Billy Kovatch put a single right between the second baseman and the first baseman to put 2 on with no outs. After a fly out, Billy Hogan, who made his debut for the Redfish against his old club before the lights went out, drew a walk to load the bases. William Plaza, who continues to be one of the league's best hitters, flied one to right that brought home Gutierrez and the Redfish trailed 7-1.

The Joes knocked Chaffardet out of the ballgame in the 6th inning as they loaded the bases on back-to-back hits and an intentional walk. Froilan Ramirez took to the hill in relief but didn't fair much better as he hit the first batter and walked in a run. The Joes drew another walk and got another run and when they did get bat on the ball, Rogers brought home a pair to put Anderson out in front 7-1.

Charlotte County tried to reel closer as Gutierrez ripped a single up the middle to bring home pinch-hitter Brad Thoma in the top of the 7th inning.

In the 8th inning, Jason Hurst tattooed a double down the left-field line and plated as Plaza grounded into a double play and the Redfish were behind 7-3. The Joes relief didn't let the Redfish get any closer as the ‘Fish fell in the opener of the double-header 7-3. A bright spot for the Redfish in the defeat was that Mike Hudzina, a Port Charlotte native, made his debut Redfish and professional in the top of the 5th inning as he drew a walk.
