Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., July 1, 2009) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution on Wednesday with their fourth walk-off victory of the season, a 3-2 win before a past-capacity crowd of 6,060 at Citibank Park.
The Ducks scored their first two runs on RBI base hits off the bat of Victor Rodriguez. Rodriguez' RBI single in the first and RBI single in the sixth helped the Ducks bring a 2-0 lead to the eighth inning. Ducks' starter Julio Manon fired the first seven innings, yielding five hits and no runs. In the top of the eighth, Ron Flores was summoned from the bullpen and did not retire a batter. After three consecutive singles, Joe Valentine was called upon to try and put out the fire. After a bases loaded walk, Jason Aspito flied out to left field, which brought home Matt Rogelstad to tie the game at two. Valentine then induced Matt Padgett to hit into a 1-6-3 double play and the Ducks avoided further damage.
The score remained the same until the home half of the ninth inning when Johnny Hernandez walked off Revs' reliever Chris Britton (0-3). Dennis Donovan then bunted Hernandez to second to bring the game-winning run into scoring position. Juan Francia then came to the plate and turned around to bat from the right side as lefty Daryl Harang was brought in. Francia ripped the first pitch he saw into left field and the Ducks waddled off for the fourth time this season. Billy Simas (3-1) picked up the win tossing a scoreless ninth inning as the Flock took the series two games to one.
The Ducks welcome in the Bridgeport Bluefish for a four-game series on Thursday. Game time is 7:05 p.m., and the Citibank Park gates open at 6:05 p.m. Southpaw Troy Cate makes the start for Long Island against Bridgeport's Kyle Jackson.
