Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, TX - RHP José Urquidy and OF Chas McCormick are both scheduled to begin Major League rehab assignments with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys on Sunday, May 12 when the Space Cowboys take on Oklahoma City at 2:05 pm CT at Constellation Field.
This will be the third time Urquidy has been assigned to Sugar Land on a Minor League rehab assignment. The righty made two appearances with Sugar Land in 2021, going 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA in 9.0 innings, and made a pair of appearances with the Space Cowboys in 2023, allowing two earned runs in 5.0 innings of work. The 29-year-old is returning from a right forearm strain suffered in Spring Training and is scheduled to start for Sugar Land on Sunday.
McCormick is slated to appear on a Major League rehab assignment with the Space Cowboys for the second time in his career and the first time at Constellation Field. He played in two games on August 30 and 31 in 2021 at El Paso, combining to go 4-for-8 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. McCormick was placed on the injured list on May 1 with right hamstring discomfort.
This will be the fourth and fifth Major League rehab assignments with the Space Cowboys in 2024. RHP Justin Verlander made his first appearance of the season on rehab with the Space Cowboys on April 7, RHP Shawn Dubin was with Sugar Land from April 7 through 13 and INF Grae Kessinger just completed a rehab assignment with the Space Cowboys on Thursday. All rehab assignments are subject to change without prior notice.
