Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Tacos (35-23) walked-off on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (30-26) 1-0 in a pitcher's duel Tuesday night from Chukchansi Park. Both starting pitchers earned no-decisions despite valiant efforts. Fresno starter Josh James was electric for seven scoreless frames. He scattered three hits (no hits allowed for his final 14 batters faced), one walk and punched out 13. His 13 strikeouts fell one shy of Tim Lincecum's single-game Fresno record (April 29, 2007 vs. Colorado Springs). On the other hand, Sky Sox starter Freddy Peralta went six and one-third shutout innings. He gave up one hit (one-out single in the seventh), while walking three and fanning nine.
After both starters departed, the two bullpens continued the outstanding work, combining for five strikeouts. In the bottom of the ninth, a leadoff double by Tyler White set the tone for the frame. After a hit-by-pitch, sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk, Jon Kemmer (2-for-3) stepped up to the plate with the bases-loaded and drilled a pitch up the middle. The ball caromed off of Jorge Lopez' leg, plating White. The single extended Kemmer's team-high hit streak to eight games and improved Fresno to 8-9 in one-run affairs.
Lopez (2-2) suffered the loss for and Brendan McCurry (2-2) earned the decision.
Both teams continue the series with game two of three Wednesday night from Chukchansi Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT. Fresno RHP Brock Dykxhoorn (0-0, 3.60) and Colorado Springs RHP Adrian Houser (0-0, 27.00) are the probable starters.
