SALT LAKE CITY - Round Rock took advantage of 17 hits to top the Salt Lake Bees 10-5 to start a three-game series at Smith's Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Trailing 2-0 going into the second, the Bees' offense exploded thanks to six straight hits, including a two-run single by Sherman Johnson to take a 5-2 lead, but Round Rock would respond with two runs in the fourth and fifth, a single run in the seventh and three runs in the eighth. In his Triple-A debut Round Rock designated hitter Hunter Cole went deep twice to lead the express. Matt Thaiss, Dustin Ackley and Juan Graterol each had two hits for the Bees to lead the Salt Lake offense. The Bees had 10 hits on the night, but no extra base hits for the second consecutive night after registering at least one extra base hit in each of the Bees 56 games.

Parker Bridwell (1-1) got the start on the hill for Salt Lake and was credited with the loss. He went five innings, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits. Opposing starter Michael Roth (2-2) got the win for the Express. Roth allowed all five Bees runs (four earned) but left with the lead intact. Three Round Rock relievers would finish the game allowing a single hit and no runs over the final four innings.

The two teams will meet again for the second game of a three-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark before a series finale on Thursday at noon. Tickets are available at slbees.com.
