Jordan Focused on Recovery After Season-Ending Injury

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Cole Jordan's time with the Moose Jaw Warriors is ending a bit sooner than he had hoped.

The organization announced on Wednesday that the 20-year-old defenceman would miss the rest of the season with a knee injury that would require surgery.

"It's a really hard thing for myself and my family to go through," Jordan said on Wednesday. "It's very unexpected, that's not how you want your junior career to end."

The injury happened about a month ago and Jordan said he was in shock when he found out it would require surgery.

"I didn't think that the injury was anything that's major," he said. "I was basically in shock, it took quite a while to sink in."

Jordan has been with the Warriors throughout his Western Hockey League career, playing in 114 games over the course of four seasons.

He was originally listed by the organization in 2018 and grew into an NHL draft pick, being selected by the Calgary Flames in the fifth round of the 2021 draft.

General Manager Jason Ripplinger said he's proud of how Jordan developed during his time with the Warriors.

"That's our whole model here, we want to bring these kids in as young boys and they come out as young men," he said. "He's been a good soldier for us for the four-plus years and we're going to wish him all the best."

Jordan said the Warriors and Moose Jaw have been home for him for the past four seasons.

"It's meant everything to me," he said. "I've got so many people to thank in this organization - Jason Ripplinger, Mark O'Leary, Gord Burnett, Scott King, all of my teammates over the past four seasons, Brooke [Kosolofski], Tanner [Arnold], they do so much for me."

Jordan posted two goals and seven points in 17 games this season. He finishes his WHL career with eight goals and 35 points.

He said since coming to Moose Jaw as a 17-year-old rookie, his game has grown so much.

"The development that I've made here has been massive, the steps I've taken, it's been insane to look back on how I was on the ice and off the ice, I'll never forget my five years here," Jordan said.

Jordan was with the Warriors through some low times in his rookie season through to big moments, like advancing into the second round of the WHL Playoffs last season.

He said there are a few memories that he will have for a long time.

"The bubble is a big one as a real unique experience and then getting my first taste of the playoffs last season was really exciting," Jordan said. "These past couple seasons have been real exciting years for fans and for the team."

Jordan's focus will now be on rehabbing his injury to be ready to go for next season where he will be looking to make the jump to pro hockey in the Flames' organization.

While going through his rehab, Jordan said he still plans on keeping a close eye on the Warriors.

"These guys are my brothers and I'll be watching them and rooting for them," he said. "I hope to be back here a lot through the second half and into the playoffs."
