Cougars Doubled up 4-2 in Portland

Portland OR - The Prince George Cougars dropped their second game on the six-game road trip falling 4-2 to the Portland Winterhawks, Wednesday at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum.

The Winterhawks started the scoring at 2:47 with Josh Zakreski firing a wrist shot by Tyler Brennan. The Cougars responded with a power-play goal as Ethan Samson scored his 7th of the season to tie the game at 10:20.

Chase Wheatcroft was awarded a penalty shot in the final minutes of the first but was stopped by the blocker of goaltender Dante Giannuzzi. At 19:02 on a Winterhawks power-play, Gabe Klassen appeared to redirect the puck off his skate and by Brennan to make it 2-1. The goal went under review for several minutes and remained a good goal. The Hawks led the Cougars 2-1 after 20 minutes.

The Cougars had the lone goal in the second frame with Koehn Ziemmer tapping in his 17th of the season to tie the game. The Cougars and Winterhawks went to the dressing room tied at two.

Portland jumped back into the lead after Rhett Ravandahl redirected the puck by Brennan to score his first WHL goal to make it 3-2. Portland then added an empty netter from Aidan Litke to put the game out of reach. The Winterhawks were able to hold on for a 4-2 victory over the Cougars.
