MYRTLE BEACH, SC (APRIL 20, 2010) - Nate Jones threw six and two-thirds outstanding innings and the Dash bats provided plenty of offense as Winston-Salem won its seventh straight game with a 7-1 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (4-8) at BB&T Coastal Field on Tuesday night. The Dash has taken the first two games of the four-game series on the Grand Strand.

Drew Garcia provided the early offense for Winston by hitting a long two-run homer to left field in the second inning. Garcia's home run came on the first pitch from Cole Rohrbough (0-1), who had walked Kyle Shelton with two outs. The Dash second baseman also extended his hit streak to nine games with the blast.

Winston-Salem (9-3) added to its lead in the fifth inning when Jon Gilmore cracked an RBI single to left field, scoring Justin Greene from first and giving the team a 3-0 lead.

The Dash extended its advantage to 4-0 in the sixth with a Garcia RBI single to left.

Meanwhile, Jones (1-1) was pitching a gem. Over the first six innings, he allowed only an infield single in the second while striking out five. Jones retired 14 batters in a row at one point and was extremely efficient with his pitch count.

The only trouble he encountered all night came in the bottom of the seventh. After getting the leadoff man, he allowed back-to-back hits to Adam Milligan and Gerry Rodriguez. With runners on second and third, Calvin Culver hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center, scoring Milligan and cutting the Dash lead to 4-1.

Jones was removed after walking the next batter, and Hector Santiago struck out Chris Shehan to end the inning. Jones went six and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run on three hits to go along with a walk and five strikeouts. With the performance, he continued and impressive streak: Dash starters have now allowed three runs or fewer in all 12 games this season.

Winston-Salem added three insurance runs in the eighth on a wild pitch, a Brandon Short RBI single, and Eduardo Escobar's sacrifice fly.

Santos Rodriguez and Kyle Bellamy retired the final six Pelicans batters in order to finish off the Dash's seventh consecutive victory.

Garcia paced the offense from the eight spot in the lineup, going 2 for 5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Short also extended his hit streak to nine with his eighth inning single, while Gilmore has hit in eight straight games after going 3 for 5 on the night. Eight of the nine Dash hitters collected base hits, with Seth Loman being the only exception.

The Dash goes for its third straight series win on Wednesday night. LHP Charlie Leesman (1-1, 2.25) makes his third start for the Dash against Pelicans RHP Yeliar Castro (2-0, 7.71). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at BB&T Coastal Field. The webcast pre-game show begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
