Johnson Leads Sky Carp Past Bandits

Beloit Sky Carp News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa - Osiris Johnson at the plate. Osiris Johnson in the field.
That pretty well sums up the 10th inning for the Beloit Sky Carp Saturday night in Davenport.
Johnson hit a two-out double to give the Sky Carp a 3-2 lead, then threw out a runner at the plate to end the game in the bottom of the 10th.
The win allowed Beloit to close to within three games of Peoria in the Midwest League's Western Division standings with 19 games to play.
Trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning, the Sky Carp evened the score on a Joe Mack single that brought home Cristhian Rodriguez. Johnson struck his first blow in the sixth inning on an RBI double that made it 2-1, Beloit.
That's the way things stayed until the bottom of the ninth, when the River Bandits pushed across a run to tie the game.
Just when it appeared as though the Sky Carp would squander their opportunity in the top of the 10th, Johnson came through again, smacking a double to bring home Chase Luttrell with the winning run.
Tyler Eckberg kept the River Bandits off the board in the 10th, thanks in part to Johnson's heroics. The center fielder put a stop to a potential game-tying sacrifice fly when he gunned down Jean Ramirez to end the game.
Karson Milbrandt got the start and was terrific, throwing five innings of one-run ball. Eckberg picked up his second save of the season out of the bullpen.
The Sky Carp and River Bandits will play again Sunday at 1:05 p.m in the series finale. Beloit returns home for its final homestand of the season, a 12-game stand that opens on Tuesday, August 22 against Lake County.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
