Trenton grabs the series and wins 7 of 13 from Portland in 2009
Portland, ME) - RHP Zach McAllister (7-5) lowered his league-leading ERA to 2.23 with 7.2 strong innings and SS Eduardo Nunez drove in two runs as the Trenton Thunder (68-69) defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (64-73) 5-2 on Thursday night at Hadlock Field. Trenton took 2 of 3 from the Sea Dogs and won the season series by winning 7 of 13.
McAllister earned his 7th win of the season, allowing four hits, one run and two walks. Portland's 1B Jon Still hit into a double play in the fourth inning to score CF Ryan Kalish for Portland's lone run against the righty.
LHP Kris Johnson (0-3) suffered his third loss in as many outings with Portland, yielding two runs on four hits over 7 IP. Trenton scored twice off Johnson in the third inning on run-scoring singles by CF Austin Krum and Nunez.
The Thunder touched LHP Derrick Loop for three runs in the eighth inning to improve their lead to 5-1. LF James Cooper led off the frame with a single and was sacrificed to second base. 2B Matt Cusick walked and Nunez followed with his second RBI single of the game. DH Noah Hall and 1B Chris Malec each drove home runs with singles. Kalish led off the ninth inning with a solo-homer into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion against RHP Grant Duff for the game's final run.
