Johnson Dazzles In High-A Debut, Snappers Shutout Cubs 2-0

SOUTH BEND, IN - Snappers' starting pitcher M.D. Johnson pitched six scoreless innings with just two hits on Friday in his High-A debut. The Beloit Snappers (27-31) secured their third shutout of the season, 2-0 over the South Bend Cubs (25-32).

The Snappers scored in the fourth inning off Chicago Cubs 2019 First Round pick Ryan Jensen with an RBI groundout from Troy Johnston for his 50th RBI of the season.

Up 1-0, the Snappers added a run in the sixth. Griffin Conine belted the first pitch he saw off Cubs reliever Joe Nahas to the scoreboard in right field for a home run. Conine leads Minor League Baseball with 19 home runs.

Justin Evans and Tyler Mitzel combined for three perfect innings out of the bullpen to secure Beloit's 2-0 win.

Beloit's Top Performers: Johnson pitched six scoreless innings for a quality start in his first start in High-A. Conine hit his second home run of the series and 19th of the year, with an outfield assist at home plate. Kameron Misner and Connor Scott both made diving plays in the outfield to save hits.

The Snappers face the South Bend Cubs again on Saturday. Beloit is back at Pohlman Field for the final time on July 13-18th against the Quad Cities River Bandits before moving into ABC Supply Stadium downtown beginning August 3.
