Johnson City Doughboys News Release

Elizabethton hit three home runs and dominated Johnson City en route to a 9-2 victory on Wednesday night at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark.

Johnson City (8-14-1) gave up all three of those homers within the first four innings and were left looking up at a big deficit for the rest of the game. Elizabethton (13-10) led 6-0 after the first inning and 8-1 after the third inning.

The River Riders have now won seven of their last eight games, while the Doughboys have just one win in their last five contests.

Ashton King finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, and Brady Cottom ended his night 2-for-4 as well with an RBI.

Yet, no other Doughboy would record a hit in the loss. Johnson City struck out fifteen times in the game one night after striking out sixteen times in a 6-5 loss. The 31 combined punchouts is the most by far in a two-game stretch for Johnson City this season.

The Johnson City bullpen shined for the second night in a row, getting two scoreless innings apiece from Damon Cox and Ethan Courtney, but the River Rider damage early on was more than enough for Elizabethton to coast to another win.

It was a relatively mistake-free game, with the Doughboys committing zero errors and the River Riders ending with just one fielding miscue. Johnson City is now 1-9 in games when their opponent commits 1 or fewer errors.

Johnson City will look to rebound on Thursday night when they return home to face the Bristol State Liners at TVA Credit Union Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
