Greeneville Flyboys News Release
PULASKI - A five-home run night from Pulaski brought an end to the Greeneville Flyboys winning streak as the River Turtles secured an 11-4 victory on Wednesday night at Historic Calfee Park.
Greeneville (14-9) holds just a half-game lead in the Appalachian League West Division over Bristol and a one-game lead over third-place Elizabethton after both teams tallied wins on Wednesday.
Pulaski opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as a leadoff home run against Flyboys' starter Connor Harris gave the River Turtles a 1-0 advantage. A single and a double later in the frame would give Pulaski a 3-0 lead against Greeneville.
The Flyboys rallied in the top of the fourth inning as Jonathan Hogart got things started by taking a pitch off his shoulder to become a leadoff baserunner. Tayler Aguilar followed with a run-scoring single to plate Hogart and make it 3-1. Aguilar eventually crossed the plate to trim the deficit to 3-2 as a fielding error by the right fielder allowed him to score following a single by Chris Williams.
Eddie Micheletti knotted the score 3-3 for Greeneville with a double to right field as Williams scored from second on the play. Darius Perry handed the Flyboys a 4-3 lead with a run-scoring single to the third baseman as he would beat the throw and allow Micheletti to score on the play.
Harris looked to work around a leadoff baserunner in the bottom of the fourth inning to keep Greeneville ahead of the River Turtles. Pulaski delivered its second home run of the night with two outs in the frame to gain a 5-4 lead and would not look back.
The River Turtles bullpen silenced the Greeneville offense as Lucas Reed retired 10 consecutive batters from the fifth inning until Hogart's one-out single in the top of the eighth inning. Pulaski put an exclamation point on the victory in the bottom of the eighth inning by belting a pair of two-run home runs and a solo home run to stretch the lead to 11-4.
Greeneville loaded the bases with one out in the top of the ninth with a hit and back-to-back walks before Pulaski turned a 4-6-3 double play to end the contest and preserve the victory. Greeneville pitching entered the night having allowed six home runs through 22 games but would see Pulaski finish with a total of five in the win.
Greeneville visits Burlington for a pair of games beginning on Thursday, July 1st followed by a Saturday night contest against Johnson City before returning to Pioneer Park to host the Doughboys on Sunday, July 4th at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Flyboys ticket office at 423-609-7400.
