
Johnson, Cierlik, and Wesley Combined For Birds First Shutout

St. Paul, MN - Doug Johnson pitched 6.2 innings of three-hit shutout baseball on Saturday night to lead the Sioux Falls Canaries (8-19) to a 2-0 victory over the St. Paul Saints (18-11).
The Canaries took the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Abner Arroyo led off with a single and advanced to second base on a single by Dennis Anderson. Angelo Fermin grounded into a fielder's choice, leaving runners on the corners with one away. Chris Hall followed with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Arroyo, and giving the Canaries a 1-0 lead.
Dennis Anderson hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the eighth inning, to give the Canaries a 2-0 lead.
Doug Johnson (1-3) picked up the win for the Canaries. Jason Cierlik retired all four batters he faced to bridge the gap to closer John Wesley who threw a perfect ninth inning and picked up his fifth save of the year.
